Youth leader faults Dabang as Plateau PDP campaign DG

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth activist from Bokos Local Council of Plateau State, Emmanuel Macham, has condemned the appointment of Chief Latep Dabang as the Director General of the party’s gubernatorial campaign council.

Macham contended that since the PDP governorship candidate, Caleb Mutfwang, hails from Plateau Central, it would be insensitive and poor political calculation to appoint another person from the same zone as DG of the campaign council.

He maintained that Dabang’s appointment should be reversed immediately, adding that such decision could widen the cracks in Plateau PDP.

While stressing that the appointment of Dabang as DG could be considered untimely, he asserted that the choice of somebody from Plateau North or South would help to inspire confidence in the reconciliation moves and help the party withstand the propaganda trailing the development.

In a statement, yesterday, Macham declared: “I wish to sincerely express my deepest regrets regarding the overbearing connivance by some special forces acting for themselves and others within Plateau PDP. These people have systematically propelled themselves on a selfish mission to destroy the party in Plateau in their quest to find political rocket launching grounds to settle personal scores using PDP.

“This act may never and will not necessarily translate into gaining votes for the party. The purported appointment of Dabang by the court-nullified executives is completely irresponsible, falls short of moral values and toys with the people’s sensibilities as we approach the 2023 general elections.”

He noted that the attempt to destroy the mutually-beneficial spread of political positions, observed by serious-minded political parties, negates the party’s standard for fairness and puts it at serious disadvantage, rather than one determined to reclaim the government in the next general elections.

Macham stated: “We are woefully collapsing all efforts aimed at keeping our house in order and in good shape by resorting to unnecessary overlapping crises that have nothing to do with our party. By fronting Dabang, the actors’ attempt to canvass votes for the party may be translated into a Lalong/Dabang fight, which is far from what the electorate expect from a formidable party ready for governance.

“The gubernatorial candidate is from Plateau Central where Dabang hails from. On what basis can the political class be convinced of this mathematical calculation, which is completely surprising to every right-thinking stakeholder?”

According to him, whatsoever Dabang has offered that convinced his employers as his qualification for the job falls short of the expectations of the wider Plateaunians.

He added: “Yes, the Sen. Jerry Useni group lost out in the party congress and gubernatorial primary. Now will they also be excluded from the campaign directorate to ensure that the winner takes all the glory and benefits?”
