Foundation, Rotary Club of Palmgrove Estate offer free eye screening

Club confirm 1,500 patients for low cost cataract surgery

The Indo Eye Care Foundation, in collaboration with Rotary Club of Lagos Palmgrove Estate, has completed free eye screening exercise in readiness for cataract surgery next month.

The two-week screening took place at Indo Eye Care Foundation Centre. According to the past Assistant Governor, District 9110 and Past President, Rotary Club of Lagos Palmgrove Estate, Rotarian Ramesh Biswal, the yearly cataract surgery performed by Indian doctors, which used to take place at the General Hospital in Marina, Lagos, with the help of Lagos State government, would now take place at the well-equipped Indo-Eye Care Foundation Eye Care Centre located at 3, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, 7 and 8 Bus Stop.

Biswal, who said that the Eye Care Centre was completed with the support of members of the Indian community and notable Nigerians, including the Publisher of The Guardian, Maiden Alex-Ibru; past President of Rotary Club of Lagos Palmgrove Estate, Dr. Alexander Thomopulos, among others, said: “We have screened about 2,000 patients out of which we have detected 900 confirmed patients for surgery.

“Screened patients are also drawn from Indo Temple in Lekki, Rotary Club of Lagos Island and other clubs in District 9110 to make up our target of 1,500 beneficiaries. He said the cost of each surgery would be at between N50,000 and N70,000 instead of about N500,000 as charged in hospitals.”
