#BREAKING: Oshiomhole ‘abandons’ Senatorial bid, declares for 2023 Presidency Friday

LAGOS HERALD – Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, has reportedly jettisoned his Senatorial ambition to join the race for Presidency.

As gathered by LAGOS HERALD, the former Edo State Governor will make a public declaration to contest for the office of President, on Friday, April 29th at the Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture, Area 10 Abuja.

This information was further corroborated by Victor Oshioke, a close ally of Oshiomhole who posted an official invite to the event on Facebook.

“Dear Sir/Madam, I wish to specially invite you to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s public declaration to contest for the office of President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the 2023 general election, under the platform of the APC.

Date: Friday April 29th 2022. Venue: Cyprian Ekwensi Center for Arts and Culture, Area 10 Abuja. Time: 3 pm prompt. Your presence will be highly appreciated.”

Oshiomhole, an ex-Labour Leader, had on the occasion of his 70th Birthday held on April 4, declared his intention to run for the ticket of the APC as Senator representing Edo North District in the party’s May 24 primaries earlier in April.

“My intention to vie for the senatorial seat is to ensure that the voice of Afemai land is heard and my concept of empowerment will be modified not just giving Keke NAPEP, generator or motocycle.

“We should be thinking of how we can bring infrastructure development to our people,” he said.

Since his declaration for the seat however, he has been faced with the herculean challenge of convincing Francis Alimikhena, the incumbent Senator running for a third-term, to jettison his ambition.

LAGOS HERALD had on Thursday, 28th April reported that two of his former commissioners from the senatorial district, Lucky James and Inumidun Idehen released a joint statement pitching their tent with the incumbent Senator.

They argued that returning the incumbent to the National Assembly would  “guarantee a bigger deal” for the senatorial district than electing the 70-year-old.

With Oshiomhole ‘jettisoning’ his ambition of becoming a federal lawmaker in the 10th National Assembly for the Presidency, he will be slugging it out with the Speaker of the 6th House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, as well as fellow heavy-weights like Senators Rochas Okorocha, Orji Uzor Kalu, Ibikunle Amosun and Chris Ngige.

Political watchers have also tipped incumbent Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Transportation Minister and 2-time Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, as major contenders for the APC ticket.
