Meanwhile, plans to to endorse the Senate President amongst the presidential aspirants as the consensus choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the Senate appears to be creating a division among the lawmakers.

As gathered by LAGOS HERALD, the move reportedly being promoted by Senators Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf (APC, Taraba Central), Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (APC, Niger North) and a former lawmaker, Senator Abdullahi Gumel, who previously represented Jigawa North West is being frustrated because Senators have pitched tent with other aspirants.

They were said to have commenced before the Red Chamber went on a Sallah recess with some form of momentum, ahead of a potential declaration of his interest for presidency this week.

With 71 members in the Senate, should the consensus move scale through, the Senate President may be one of the dark horses to watch out for in the APC Presidential Primary schedued for later thuis month.

With a possible entrance into the race,Lawan will however have to slug it out with political heavyweights like Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, National leader of the APC,Asiwaju Bola Tinubu (Lagos); Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi amongst others to clinch the APC presidential ticket.

On declaration, the Yobe-born-lawmaker will become the third former Senate President to join the 2023 Presidential Race following previous declarations by Senators Anyim Pius Anyim and Abubakar Bukola Saraki, both of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, is also speculated to be eyeing the top political office, just like his successor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who will be running for the second time after his loss in the 2019 PDP Presidential Primary.

First elected into the House of Representatives in 1999, he crossed over to the Senate in 2007 after two-terms in the green chamber and has remained in the Upper House since then.
